A citizen of Bahrain, Jalal Hasan Jasim Kashim, has been arrested by the police in the Park Street police station area in response to allegations of illegally staying in India.

According to police sources, Kashim was apprehended on Sunday night as he was wandering aimlessly in Park Street areas without valid documents proving his illegal stay in India. The police claim that despite being in India for 42 years, Kashim failed to produce any valid documents supporting his legal residence.

The police have filed a case under the foreigners act against Kashim. In a statement to the police, Kashim revealed that although he is a citizen of Bahrain, he is a German refugee. He possesses cards related to this matter. He has been residing in India for approximately a year. However, the police are investigating the circumstances and reasons for his arrival in India.

Due to language barriers, communicating with Kashim has proven challenging for the police, as he speaks broken English, making it difficult to understand. To gather more information about him, the police are seeking assistance from the Security Control Room. On Monday, Kashim was brought to the Bankshall lockup court since he had no legal representation. Nabanita Mandal, an advocate from Kolkata’s Legal Aid Defense Council, is representing him in the absence of any legal counsel.

Mandal stated, “The foreigner informed us that he came to India with a tourist visa to meet his wife.” Kashim has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
