A total of 98.5 per cent of students recorded a splendid performance by clearing their papers successfully in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations (WBJEE) results declared today.
According to the board officials, for the first time, the top two rank holders shared the same name. Himanshu Shekhar from Barrackpore Central Model School in North 24-Parganas district stood first in the exam. The second rank holder, another Himanshu Shekhar, is from Nirman Vidya Jyoti School in Siliguri. Saptarshi Mukherjee from Future Foundation School in Kolkata, affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), came third.
Saptarshi Mukherjee was followed by Jahnvi Shaw, a student of South Point School, Kolkata who stood fourth in the merit list.
Six of the successful students out of top 10 in merit list are from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Notably, this year, the exam was held on 30 April. Twenty per cent more students appeared in the WBJEE exam than last year. Out of the total successful students, 73.2 per cent are males and 26.8 per cent are females. Also, among the successful students, 52.2 per cent are from WBCHSE board, 27.74 per cent are from CBSE board, 2.68 per cent are from ISC board and 17.37 per cent are from other boards.
In the district-wise performance in West Bengal, North 24-Parganas topped the list while Kolkata registered second in the list followed by West Midnapore, East Midnapore and Hooghly.
As informed by the WBJEE chairman Malayendu Saha, the registration for counseling for these students will begin in the third week of August.
