More than 8,000 people visited the Sebaashray camps at Satgachia today.

Since the inception of the initiative on 2 January, around 6,44,479 people have visited the camps till the 42nd day, today. Forty two camps have been opened in Satgachia. Sebaashray is the initiative of Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamul Congress national general secretary and the party’s MP from Diamond Harbour. The camps will be held in the vast areas that fall under Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat. Then it moved to Falta followed by Bishnupur and Metiabruz. The camps are held for 10 days in each Assembly segment. Mr Banerjee oversees the entire exercise. Medicines are given free of cost. Diagnostic tests are held free of cost along with hospitalisation if required. A nine year old boy underwent open heart surgery while a tumour was removed from the hand of another nine year old boy. Nineteen elderly people underwent eye surgery to remove their cataract.

Mr Banerjee on his X-handle wrote: “What makes # Sabaashray truly exceptional is not just the scale of its outreach but the spirit that drives it- expecting nothing in return, yet delivering everything that matters. The initiative thrives one simple yet profound logic that when intent is pure, the impact is boundless.”

The Trinamul Congress in its official X-handle wrote: “When you lose your eyesight, you don’t just lose your vision; you lose the colors of your dreams and the confidence to chase them. Through #Sebaashray, Shri @abhishekaitc is bringing back not just sight, but hope and dignity.

“15 individuals from the Bishnupur Model Camp have regained their vision after successful, free cataract surgeries at Renuka Eye Institute.

“For them, it’s more than a surgery, it’s a second chance to see their world, their loved ones, and their dreams once again.”

The camps are cleaned everyday so that the doctors, para medical staff and nurses feel as if they are staring every day afresh. The visitors are given a booklet containing dos and don’ts relating to some diseases. There are help desks to take them to the appropriate doctors.
