14 days jail custody for Anubrata guard Hussein


The Special CBI Court in Asansol today sent constable Sehgal Hussein, bodyguard of Trinamul Congress (TMC) Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal to 14 days judicial custody.

After being arrested, CBI has produced Sehgal Hussein twice before the court and on both occasions he has been sent to seven days CBI custody.

After completing his 14 days CBI custody, today again he has been forwarded before the court amidst tight security and his advocates sought bail, but the court refused his bail petition and sent him to seven days judicial custody.

From the Special CBI Court, Sehgal Hussein has been taken to the Asansol Special Correctional Home.

On 9 June CBI arrested Sehgal Hussein at Nizam Palace in Kolkata for not cooperating with the central investigating agency in the multi-crore cross border cattle smuggling case. On 8 July, Sehgal Hussein will be next produced before the court.

During investigation, CBI officers have come across several properties belonging to Hussein and have claimed that his estimated property is worth over Rs 150 crore.

CBI has arrested him for having assets disproportionate to his income as an armed police constable.

Recently, the younger daughter of Sehgal Hussein has been killed in a road accident in Birbhum. Friends and relatives of Sehgal Hussein have also been questioned by the CBI.

Anubrata Mondal has also been grilled by CBI in this case.

Both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are probing the multi-crore cross-border cattle smuggling case.

There is a large cow hut in Mohammadbazar area in Birbhum and the CBI sleuths claim that Birbhum was also a corridor of cross-border cattle smuggling. Enamul Haque, the main accused, is out on bail.

Binoy Mishra, TMC youth leader and another accused in this case, is absconding and is stated to be out of the country.
