MLA of Pandaveswar and district president of Trinamul Congress Narendranath Chakraborty has replaced law, judiciary and labour minister Moloy Ghatak as the new chairman of Asansol Mines Board of Health. The incident has created a stir.

The district magistrate of West Burdwan, S Ponnambalam has welcomed the sitting MLA of Pandaveswar as the new chairman of AMBH. Narendra Nath Chakraborty has been in the limelight after securing the highest lead in the Asansol Lok Sabha by-elections last year in which MP Shatrughan Sinha won by a margin of over three lakh.

After the Lok Sabha byelection, the meteoric rise of Nirendra Nath Chakraborty, a former employee of ECL, started. Though the reasons for replacing the law minister is not still clear but confidential party sources said that he was not getting much time due to his busy schedule and was relieved from this post.

However, Bidhan Upadhyay, the MLA of Barabani Assembly and the mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) has retained his post of vice-chairman of Asansol Mines Board of Health. Narendra Nath Chakraborty said that he is indebted to his party for having faith in him and making him the chairman of AMBH. “I will try my level best to work for the uplifting health-related works of AMBH,” added Mr Chakraborty.

The Asansol Mines Board of Health Services has been a pioneer in providing healthcare services to the people in accordance with providing other services inclusive of sanitation, water purification, medical facilities and vaccination for the people. It has been providing services since 1915 to the people of Asansol-Raniganj zone. It strives to provide the best possible healthcare services to people so that they are able to avail it in close vicinity.

The AMBH is also involved in providing the sanitation facilities for the residents and officers look after the regular sanitation programme that is carried out in the various areas under its jurisdiction. The board is actively involved in the distribution of medication facilities and vaccination to the people in the nearby areas and also carries out health relief programmes as and when required and is well equipped to deal with any sort of pandemic situation.
