Harassment on local train: Woman threatened, companion beaten at Sealdah station
Three youths were arrested allegedly after forcefully capturing a woman's photographs on a running train.

President of the Assam Congress Bhupen Borah reportedly faced a physical assault by a group of individuals in the Jamugurihat area of the Sonitpur district in Assam on Sunday. He sustained injuries in the attack.

The Congress alleged that the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi, was denied permission to pass through Guwahati, with claims that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was creating obstacles. Sarma had advised the Congress to avoid entering Guwahati with the Yatra and issued warnings of legal actions.

During a press conference in Gobindapur, Lakhimpur district, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that the police claimed the request was ‘under consideration’, despite the Congress submitting proper route applications. Ramesh expressed his concern over the government authorities posing irrelevant questions to impede the Yatra, stating, “Their aim is to stop us anyway.”
Ramesh further appealed to the Assam government to permit the Yatra to follow the same route used by BJP President JP Nadda during his recent visit to Guwahati. After the Arunachal Pradesh leg, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will resume its journey through Assam until January 25.
