Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday charged the BJP and RSS with spearheading the subversion of every single institution and ruining the economy of the country.

Addressing party delegates on the second day of its 85th plenary session at Nava Raipur, the Congress Parliamentary Party leader said the BJP and RSS under the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre have captured every institution in the country.

”The successful completion of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has reaffirmed our faith that the people of India overwhelmingly want tolerance and harmony,” she further added.

Sonia, who held the office of Congress president for the longest period, said the current BJP government has fuelled hatred and violence against fellow Indians and it was discriminating against minorities, women, Dalits, and Adivasis. “This is a very challenging time as they (BJP) mock Gandhiji, show contempt for his values through their actions”, she claimed.

Hoping that the grand old party will emerge victorious in this struggle, Sonia said “we must tackle the regime with boldness and vigour, victory will be ours”. She further appealed to the party leader to reach out to the people with priority, and be ready to put aside personal aspirations because a victory for the party is a win for the country.

Praising her son and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi for conducting the yatra with determination in such a challenging time for the country, Sonia said it’s our responsibility that we should reflect the voice of people of all states, religions and gender. ”The Modi government has devastated our economy by favouring a handful of people at the expense of the ordinary people,” she added.
