Amid heightened tensions in Kashmir, unidentified terrorists on Tuesday opened fire at the CRPF deployment at a school which was an examination centre in Drubgaon area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police were deployed to guard the centre.

The terrorists fired some 6-7 rounds at a bunker of the CRPF deployment, according to reports.

No injuries have been reported so far in the incident.

Additional forces have been deployed at the spot and a search operation has been launched.

More reinforcements of the security forces have been called in to maintain law and order.

The attack comes on a day when over 25 members of the European Parliament are in Jammu and Kashmir – the first such visit to the Valley that comes amid concerns voiced in the US and some other countries over the situation in the state after the revocation of its special status.

The EU delegation is on a visit to assess the ground situation in the state.

The attack on the security forces comes a day after at least 19 people were injured after terrorists lobbed a grenade at a bus stand in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore.

Among the injured, the condition of six of is critical, Army sources said on Monday.

The attack comes after six personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured in a grenade attack by suspected militants in Srinagar on Saturday evening.

Earlier this month, at least 11 people were injured after terrorists hurled a grenade at a crowded market in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar.

On October 5, at least 14 people, including two women and a policeman, were injured in a grenade attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Meanwhile, terrorists have also been targetting truck drivers and labourers in the Valley.

A truck driver was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Monday night.

Last Thursday, drivers of two apple-laden trucks were shot dead when terrorists attacked a convoy of trucks in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. The trucks, heading for fruit markets elsewhere in the country, were set on fire before the terrorists escaped from the spot.

Earlier this month, three non-Kashmiri workers were killed by terrorists in the Valley.

A Punjab-based apple trader was killed by militants in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on October 16.

A day before, terrorists shot dead a migrant labourer from Chhattisgarh in Kakpora area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A truck driver from Rajasthan was killed by terrorists in Shopian on October 14.

The attacks are part of Pakistan-backed terrorists’ gameplan to terrorise traders, including apple traders, from going about business, which the government has been boosting.
