Himachal Pradesh Police on Monday celebrated State level Commemoration Day and Parade was organised in Police Line Bharari in Shimla during tributes were paid to 20 police personnel who had lost their lives in the last 8 years.

On the occasion, Sitaram Mardi, Director General of Police, HP read out the names of 292 police martyrs and paid his homage to the martyrs by laying a wreath.

Mardi said the Commemoration Day was celebrated in the honour of 21 personnel of Indian Police were attacked by the Chinese Army at a place called ‘Hot Springs’ on the Ladakh Border on 21 October, 1959.
The police personnel from CRPF under the command of Sub-Inspector Karam Singh were patrolling the border when the above attack took place. The police personnel repulsed the attack with full courage and determination. 10 of them attained martyrdom whereas 11 personnel were captured by the Chinese army, he said, adding the day was given official recognition in the year 1960.
He added the police have innumerable and complex responsibilities while dealing with terrorism, insurgency, communal rites, encroachment, forest and mining activities, law and order situation arising out of violate crowd, natural disasters and accidents.
The police personnel have to face difficult situations in the discharge of their duties and suffer of loss of lives.
