Winning the toss, Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne decided to bat first.

Before Sri Lanka could get some respite, Ravindra Jadeja — who is playing his first match of the 2019 World Cup — sent Kusal Mendis (3) back to the hut to announce his arrival. The wicket of Avishka Fernando worsened the things for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka were four down at 55 and it seemed that India would soon wrap them up. But Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne erected the Sri Lankan spine with a 47-run stand to take their side to 102 after 25 overs without suffering any further loss.
With an experienced Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne giving him the needed support, Sri Lanka would be looking to post a competitive total on the board. India, on the other hand, would be looking to wrap the Lankans for a below par score and finish the game quickly.
Sri Lanka have included Thisara Perera in place of Jeffrey Vandersay. For India, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja came in places of Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Shami
