Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today told party leaders of Nadia district that she would not tolerate any one taking “cut money” from the state government projects and they will not be spared. If necessary, police action would be initiated against the corrupt leaders, Miss Banerjee added.

She has instructed the leaders to bring such graft cases to her and she would take necessary action and if required will get those involved arrested for taking “cut money” from the state government projects meant for the poor. She sent out a strong message saying that if she receives any complaint, be it against an MLA or MP, stern action will be taken against the person.

During the meeting, she instructed the district observer ~ Rajib Banerjee and Ranaghat Parliamentary constituency chairman ~ Shankar Singh that they can remove those leaders whom they think is unfit to carry out their duties.

During the meeting, she said that the BJP captured Ranaghat seat through divisive communal politics.

“You were at the helm of power but failed to safeguard the people against the BJP’s divisive politics and this is because of your intra-party squibbles,” Miss Banerjee reportedly said at the meeting. She reportedly pulled up Shantipur MLA Arindam Chakraborty, and Chakdah MLA Ratna Ghosh. She asked her leaders to maintain their connection with the grassroots which is lacking at present. Miss Banerjee also said that many Trinamul leaders had voted for BJP, for money, and this is the main reason why the party fared so poorly in the elections.

“The identity of the complainant would not be disclosed. Col. Diptangshu Chowdhury and his team would take necessary measures to solve the issue. The matter has to be sorted out within a week,” said a senior official at Nabanna.

Earlier this week, chief minister Mamata Banerjee directed ruling party leaders to give back any money which they might have taken as bribe from beneficiaries of government schemes.

For instance, people have been gheraoing Trinamul leaders and elected representatives of panchayats and municipalities in Birbhum, Malda Purulia and Bankura in demand of the money allegedly taken from them to provide them benefits under various schemes.
