Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said the state party wanted “next PM” Rahul Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Karnataka and herald a new developmental paradigm.

“Karnataka has always supported & encouraged @INCIndia leaders. It has been proved in case of Smt. Indira ji & Smt. Sonia ji. We also want our next Prime Minister of India Shri. @RahulGandhi to contest from Karnataka & herald new developmental paradigm,” Siddaramaiah tweeted with a hashtag #RaGaFromKarnataka.

Following this, Karnataka Congress Chief Dinesh Gundu Rao urged Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha polls from the southern state.

“On behalf of Karnataka Congress, I urge Rahul Gandhi to consider contesting from Karnataka the forthcoming #LokSabhaElections2019. He should be our representative from south India and for that he should choose my state. #RaGaFromKarnataka,” tweeted Rao.

The Congress has already announced Gandhi’s candidature from Amethi and and Sonia Gandhi from Rae Barelli, the party’s traditional strongholds in Uttar Pradesh.

The Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka will be held in two phases — for 14 seats on April 18 and for the remaining 14 seats on April 23.

The state’s ruling Congress-Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) coalition has allotted 20 seats to Congress and eight to JD-S in these elections.
