Shastri wants India to aim for a positive start in Australia
Shastri believes India must target a fast start to the series in Perth to keep their World Test Championship hopes alive.
Shastri also said that they won nine matches overseas and three series — a feat that no other Indian side has been able to achieve.
Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar reminded Ravi Shastri about Team India’s overseas record in the past a day after the under fire coach claimed his side is a better performer than teams of the last 15-20 years.
India lost yet another Test series in England following their 60-run defeat in the fourth Test against England at Southampton. After the team’s defeat, Shastri hit back at his critics on Wednesday and claimed that “the current Indian team has played better overseas than Indian teams of last 15-20 years. And you’ve had some great players in those series”.
Shastri also said that they won nine matches overseas and three series — a feat that no other Indian side has been able to achieve.

Speaking to India Today, Sunil Gavaskar, once a teammate and captain of Shastri, recalled some of the series wins abroad by Indian teams of the past.
“All I can say is that no Indian team has won in Sri Lanka for a long time. But we have won in the West Indies, in England, Test matches in Australia and South Africa,” Gavaskar said.
Gavaskar further said, “What I can say is that teams in 1980s have won in England and West Indies. Rahul Dravid also won series in West Indies in 2005, in England in 2007 and captained when India beat South Africa for the first time (in South Africa).”
“Dravid gets very little credit for his leadership and his team’s wins. There have been teams who have won overseas,” Gavaskar added.
