Monica Gill, the popular Punjabi actress who will be seen in JP Dutta’s war drama “Paltan”, feels that she is “way too new” in Bollywood to do a women-centric movie, but would love to star in one in future.

The actress will be portraying the character of a Punjabi girl.

“I would love to do a female-centric film in Hindi cinema. However, I feel that I am way too new. I do think that in order to carry a female-led film, you need to do films like ‘Paltan’ or ‘Firangi’..which have been made at a big scale. So, they do give you the exposure,” according to IANS.

Based on the Nathu La military clashes of 1967 which took place along the Sikkim border, “Paltan” showcases an untold story of the Indian forces facing an intense battle to ward off a Chinese infiltration.

“Not just my character, but others also… you will see the pain of having to send your loved ones to war. That is the point of my character… having the audience to understand what it’s like to have a son, lover or a fiance go to war and understand that they might not return.”

The film starring actors Arjun Rampal, Gurmeet Choudhary and Siddhant Kapoor will show men’s bravery and valour, among other things, while Monica’s upcoming Punjabi film “Punj Khaab” would be a women-centric one.

The Ambarsariya actress also said: “I do not think that right now (is the right time) because I am only two films old in Hindi cinema. At this point, I don’t think it would be a smart idea but I do think later on in my career, it is definitely something that I look forward to.”

Renowned filmmaker JP Dutta returns to direction after 12 years with this war drama. The national-award winning director had earlier treated the audience with war films like Border, LOC Kargil, and Refugee, among others.

Presented by Zee Studio and produced by JP Dutta films, ‘Paltan’ is slated to release on 7 September.
