Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan on Thursday entered the exclusive club after hammering an 87-ball century in the one-off Test against Afghanistan in the first session of their debut match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
In the first session, on the first day of the only Test against Afghanistan, Dhawan scored a century and in the process became the first ever Indian cricketer and the sixth overall player to achieve this feat in the longest format of the game.
Earlier in the day, after winning the toss, standby India skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to bat first.
Dhawan and Murali Vijay opened Indian innings and gave India a decent start by stitching up 158 runs in 27 overs.
Shikhar Dhawan scored 107 runs off 96 balls with a strike rate of 111.46. During his centurion innings, Dhawan struck 19 fours and three sixes.
Victor Trumper, Charlie Macartney, Don Bradman, Majid Khan and David Warner are the other five players who have achieved the feat before Dhawan.
The left-hand batsman also holds the record for scoring the fastest century ever on a Test debut. In 2013 Dhawan scored a ton off 85 balls against Australia in Mohali in his debut match.
