Security forces killed a militant in an ongoing gunfight in Srinagar’s densely populated Chattabal area on Saturday, police said.

Following a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area, security forces, including state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, surrounded Gasi Mohalla.

“One holed-up militant is still engaged in the gunfight with the security forces,” police sources added.

A CRPF officer has been injured and internet services have been suspended across the Srinagar district.

In a separate incident, militants shot at and injured a special police officer in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The militants opened fire on Showkat Ahmad Dar near his residence in Rahmoo in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, resulting in injuries to the officer, a police official said.

He said the injured officer has been admitted to a hospital and he is stated to be critical.

In another incident of violence in Kashmir, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists killed Hajin residents Hassan Dar and his nephew Bashir Ahmad after abducting them from their house at Shahgund in North Kashmir.

Police said mutilated bodies of both were spotted at 3.30 am this morning by locals outside a mosque.

The terrorists barged into their houses at mid-night and abducted them. Bashir (26) was a taxi driver. Police has registered a case and initiated investigations.
