The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Examination (WBCHSE) has changed the schedule of Higher Secondary examination, 2018 as the dates were overlapping with Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Mains), both of which are scheduled to be conducted in April, 2018.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has declared that it will conduct the JEE (Main) examination in pen and paper (offline) mode on 8 April 2018. The council has notified that the examination of mathematics, history, psychology, anthropology and agronomy will be conducted on 2 April, 2018 instead of 9 April, 2018.
Exams in computer science, modern computer application, environmental studies, health and physical education, music and visual arts will now be conducted on 10 April next year instead of 7 April. According to the new routine, students will appear for commercial law and preliminaries of auditing, philosophy and sociology exams on 9 April.
On 7 April, exams for vocational subjects like automobile, organised retailing, security, IT and ITES will be conducted. A section of teachers feel that the examination should have been ideally completed by 31 March like previous years.
They said that the routine of higher secondary examination has been changed twice this year and this is creating confusion especially among the students of science stream who will apppear for national level entrance examinations.
Previously, the state government teachers’ association had appealed to the council to change the dates of Higher Secondary practical examinations of 2018. Saugata Basu, general secretary of the association, said: “No change has been made in the routine of practical exams.”
