A division bench of the Allahabad High Court acquitted Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar,  in the murder case of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, on Thursday.

The Talwar-couple have been in Ghazibad’s Dasna jail since 2013.

According to media reports, High Court gave the Talwars ‘benefit of the doubt’ as there was ‘insufficient evidence’ to convict the couple and also pointed out that there were ‘loopholes in the CBI investigation’.

Talwar’s lawyer Rebecca John said the evidence presented by the CBI “did not stand judicial scrutiny and that is the end of it”. The couple was acquitted by the Allahabad High Court bench of Justices BK Narayana and AK Mishra.

Pinaki Misra, another defence counsel, said the judgment of the CBI court was “absolutely perverse and the High Court has set it aside correctly”.

Serving a life sentence for murdering their daughter, Aarushi and domestic help, Hemraj, dentist couple – Rajesh and Nupur Talwar’s fate was decided by the Allahabad High Court on Thursday, nine years after the horrific incident shook the nation.

Although, a special CBI court had found Aarushi’s parents guilty in 2012, the dentist couple decided to appeal against the order at the Allahabad High Court.

Earlier, a division bench of the court, comprising justices BK Narayana and AK Mishra had reserved its judgment on September 7 on an appeal filed by Talwars and fixed October 12 as the date for the verdict.

As per reports, the court is likely to re-evaluate the testimony of key witnesses after the defence had accused the prosecution of tutoring them.

On the night of 16 May 2008, Aarushi was found dead with her throat slit in the bedroom of her Noida home. On May 17, the body of Hemraj was found on the terrace.
