The much anticipated 12th edition of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is currently underway in England and Wales. In the opening game of the showpiece event, England defeated South Africa by 104 runs. In Mach No 2, West Indies bowled out Pakistan for a paltry 104 runs, their second-lowest total in all editions of the Cricket World Cup and then chased it down quite comfortably.
As many as 10 teams are battling it out in World Cup this year – England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
While the current and five-time World Cup champions Australia will be looking to defend their title, India also feature in the World Cup as one of the favourites. India are all set to begin their World Cup Campaign against South Africa at Southampton on June 5. The high voltage clash and one that gets to the nerve, India vs Pakistan, will be played on June 16 at the Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.
There would be a total of 48 matches in the World Cup of which 45 will be played in the Round-robin format post which three Knock out games will decide the winner. Each of the 10 teams will be playing a game against all the teams participating in the World Cup. The top four teams at the end of this setup will progress to the semi-finals.
